Forbes: Russian 109th Regiment Soldiers Trapped In Toretsk

The Ukrainian Forces have launched a counteroffensive in the city.
Ukrainian troops are gradually advancing in Toretsk, having already recaptured several city blocks.
Forbes, citing a video from the 101st Guards Brigade, writes about the possibility of a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Forces in the city.
“Among the strikes, there were signs of close combat — evidence that the Ukrainians were supplementing the bombing with infantry attacks. After the attacks, the bombing stopped, which may indicate that the Ukrainians had driven out local Russian forces. Videos collected by the Ukrainian 101st Guards Brigade in early October apparently captured the initial phase of the counteroffensive,” the journalists note.
They write about the presence of drones in the video, which strike Russians hiding in entryways, apartments, and on the roofs of a high-rise area. One of the UAVs filmed the retreat of the Russian infantry after their unsuccessful local counterattack. The enemy managed to gain a foothold in one of the high-rise buildings, but the Ukrainian military managed to destroy it.
According to the publication, last week, units of the Russian 109th Motorized Rifle Regiment were effectively trapped in one of the city's high-rise areas.
"Right now I am in the city center in a nine-story building. There is constant shooting, and here our guys can't even get to the neighbouring houses," one of the Russian officers said in a video he posted on social media.
The soldier reported that he was injured by falling concrete. This is further evidence of the "Ukrainians' strategy of demolishing buildings."
"To raze the city to the ground to save it is a Pyrrhic victory for the Ukrainians. But if the destruction of Toretsk is the price of partially reversing the Russian offensive on this axis, the Ukrainians will gladly pay for it. The alternative — another Ukrainian retreat — simply allows the Russians to advance into more cities,” the publication writes.
The journalists add that this could “hint at the thinking of Ukrainian commanders who are preparing for major battles in Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.”
“The plan is obvious: bomb the Russians with drones, attack with infantry... and destroy any buildings that the Russians can turn into a defensive position,” Forbes adds.
