Armenia Does Not Sign Two Documents At CIS Foreign Ministers‘ Council

Yerevan is distancing itself from Moscow.

Yerevan refused to join the two final statements of the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers' Council, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Ani Badalyan said, state agency Armenpress reported.

The representatives of the republic did not sign the statements ‘On the principles of ensuring Eurasian security’ and ‘On the inadmissibility of using unilateral restrictive measures in international relations’. Badalyan did not specify the reasons for this decision.

The meeting of the CIS foreign ministers was held in Moscow. The parties summed up the results of joint work on implementing Russia's presidency in the organisation in 2024. The participants of the meeting signed several documents concerning the work in the field of international relations and joint cultural and sporting events.

The statement on security in Eurasia states that the CIS countries realise the importance of preserving the system of international law in their space, which is based on the UN Charter. The signatories pointed out the inadmissibility of imposing rules in international relations, the elaboration of which did not ensure equal participation of all interested parties.

The second document, which Yerevan refused to accede to, noted that the adoption of unilateral restrictions by any state does not comply with the UN Charter and norms of international law.

The next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers is scheduled in Kazakhstan on April 11, 2025. On October 8, a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS countries will be held.
