Peskov took the floor.

Russia is in favour of a speedy normalization of the situation in the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia and hopes that "it will remain within the constitutional framework." This was stated by Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

"Of course, we are in favour of a speedy normalization of the situation in the republic and would like this situation to remain within the absolutely constitutional framework," Peskov told journalists on Monday.

This is how the Kremlin representative answered the question of how the Kremlin perceives what is happening in Abkhazia, Interfax reports.

Protests in Abkhazia began on the evening of November 11 after the detention of several oppositionists who spoke out against the ratification of an agreement allowing Russian companies to implement projects in the "republic." It exempts investors from customs duties on the import of construction materials and equipment, as well as from paying property taxes and profits. They will also have to pay only 5% VAT instead of 10%. In addition, investors have an advantage in receiving energy and connecting to the power grid, and they are also allowed to use the allocated Abkhaz land as collateral for a bank loan.

The opposition called the agreement a sell-off of resources and a threat to the "sovereignty of the republic."
