Miners' Strikes Have Begun In Russia

The situation in the coal mining industry in Russia is worsening.

Russian miners have announced a strike due to no wages for more than 4 months. The workers of the Inskaya mine in the Kemerovo region of the Russian Federation expressed dissatisfaction. The debt to workers has reached 46 million rubles (436,000 dollars), according to the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.

On October 21, 12 miners set up two tents near the mine's administrative building and declared a hunger strike. Later, the employer promised to pay the money by October 28 and the hunger strike was stopped. But the promise was not fulfilled. Since November, miners have been fired from work. 26 miners have already announced a new strike.

"This situation at the Inskaya mine is a manifestation of the crisis in which the Russian coal mining industry has found itself due to sanctions and, as a result, the loss of coal markets. Crisis phenomena in this industry continue to mount. More and more mines are becoming unprofitable, reducing production, laying off workers and closing down," writes the Center for Preventive Management.

A similar situation has developed in the Russian Federation and in other industries. Such as diamond mining, the pulp and paper industry and oil refining.

"The war against Ukraine started by the Kremlin is gradually destroying the Russian economy," the National Security and Defense Council noted.
