To increase military support.

Current US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to allocate an additional $24bn to Ukraine. In particular, to strengthen military support.

This is reported by the New York Post.

According to the request, which received the second above-mentioned edition, the White House Office of Administration and Budget suggested that Congress could include this assistance in the package of decisions to avoid the risk of cutting off support when there is a change in the presidential administration.

Several lawmakers were briefed on the proposal Monday. It stipulates that of the aforementioned $24 billion, $8 billion would go to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, specifically to fund arms contracts with US companies. The remaining 16bn should go to replenish the US weapons stockpile.

However, some Republicans have already expressed outrage at the reported request. For example, Senator Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah, said.

‘Joe Biden just gave away $4.7 billion of taxpayers’ money by unilaterally ‘forgiving’ loans to Ukraine. Congress should not give him a free gift to continue sabotaging President Trump's peace talks on his way out of the door. Any funding demands from Biden should be rejected,‘ he wrote on the X social network.
