Washington believes that Ukraine is mobilising an insufficient number of recruits.
The USA believes that Ukraine should consider lowering the mobilisation age to 18. This was reported by Reuters with reference to an unnamed US official.
According to him, Washington is putting pressure on Ukraine to lower the mobilisation age to 18. The official claims that Ukraine is mobilising an insufficient number of recruits.
‘Labour force is needed now. The Russians are actually making progress, steady progress in the east, and they are beginning to push back Ukrainian forces in the Kursk direction,’ he said.
The official said that ‘mobilisation and increased manpower can be important at this time as we look at the battlefield today.’
The Associated Press also writes about this, citing an unnamed interlocutor in the administration of current US President Joe Biden. He said that the White House wants Ukraine to lower the age of mobilisation from 25 to 18 in order to expand the group of men to be drafted into the army.
The official added that the ‘pure maths’ of the situation in Ukraine now is that it needs more troops to fight.
According to European officials who wished to remain anonymous, President Volodymyr Zelensky also hears concerns from allies in other Western capitals that Ukraine has a problem with the number of troops, not with weapons.
