Germany is planning to move Patriot air defense systems to Poland to protect a key logistics hub that delivers supplies to Ukraine. This was announced on November 28 by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in a statement published on the website of the country's defense ministry.
It is proposed that the air defense system could be deployed in early 2025 within six months.
“We are providing the vehicles, weapons, and ammunition that Ukraine urgently needs to defend itself against Russia's brutal attacks that violate international law,” Pistorius said.
Warsaw supported Berlin's decision, Pistorius's Polish counterpart Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.
“I just spoke with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and personally thanked him for his dedication and support for the security of Poland and NATO's eastern flank,” he wrote.
As Reuters reported, Germany previously sent 300 troops and three Patriot systems to Poland from January to November 2023. They defended the city of Zamość, located about 50 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, which, according to the publication, is important for rail communication with Ukraine.
