Lukashenka Decides To Make Sanctioned Halavaty An Ambassador

Will anyone accept the toxic “diplomat”?
Now the former CEO of Belaruskali Ivan Halavaty may be sent to work as an ambassador to one of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. This proposal was voiced by Aliaksandr Lukashenka on November 4.
It is important to note that Halavaty is under EU sanctions.
Halavaty himself, Belaruskali and BKK were included in the sixth EU sanctions package in June 2022. In December 2023, the EU Court decided to reject the claim of the bulk cargo terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania (Biriu kroviniu terminalas, BKT), which is partly owned by Belaruskali, against the EU Council.
On 24 February 2023, the EU Council renewed and extended sanctions against Belarus, which prohibited the movement of potash fertilizers from Belarus across the EU. BKT decided to challenge the sanctions in court.
