But there is a condition for this.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is ready to call early parliamentary elections. But there is a condition for this.

Steinmeier's statement is quoted by DW.

According to the president, he is ready to dissolve the German parliament, after which early elections should begin.

“Our country needs a stable majority and a government capable of action. This will be my criterion,” the head of the German state noted.

He clarified that the collapse of the “traffic light” coalition, which includes the Social Democratic Party of Germany (Scholz's party), the Green Party and the Free Democratic Party, is a political crisis “that must be left behind”.

“Now is not the time for tactics and tricks, but the time for intelligence and responsibility,” he added.

It is important to note that, according to German law, early elections are only possible in two cases. And the only possible one in this situation is if parliament decides not to give the government a vote of confidence.

In this case, Steinmeier will be able to dissolve parliament within 21 days after the vote of confidence.
