He is being held in a detention centre in eastern Seoul on charges of sedition.

Arrested former South Korean defence minister Kim Yong-hyun has attempted suicide, Yonhap News Agency reported.

‘Kim Yong-hyun attempted to commit suicide in a detention centre in eastern Seoul, where he is being held on charges of mutiny related to an investigation into the earlier imposition of martial law,’ the news agency said.

The Agency notes that the Parliament was informed about this by the representative of the correctional institution during the parliamentary hearings.

We remind you, President Yoon Suk Yeol introduced martial law in South Korea on December 3. It was in force in the country for several hours - it was promptly blocked by the Parliament. Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun resigned, on December 8 he was arrested. The South Korean Parliament failed to declare impeachment of the President, but the ruling party believes that the resignation of the head of state is inevitable.

The President of South Korea himself was declared a suspect, he is forbidden to travel abroad. Earlier, his administration was searched.
