The main restrictive measures are directed against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation.
The Council of the European Union has adopted the 15th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia over the invasion of Ukraine, the EU Council website reported on December 16.
‘The measures are designed to address the problem of circumventing EU sanctions and are aimed at Putin's shadow fleet and weakening Russia's military-industrial complex,’ the Council said.
Fifty-four individuals and 30 legal entities have fallen under the sanctions. Among them - military units responsible for the strike on the Okhmatdet children's hospital in Kyiv, top managers of energy companies, two high-ranking officials of the DPRK.
In addition, Russian defence companies and shipping companies linked to Russia's shadow fleet are under sanctions. The sanctions list included 52 tankers from third countries, which transported Russian oil. In addition, restrictions were imposed on 32 companies from China, India, Iran, Serbia and the UAE because of supplying Russia with dual-use goods.
Among other things, the EU Council banned the recognising and enforcing of judgments issued by Russian courts on claims related to EU companies in Russia. In addition, the EU has extended the deadlines for European companies to withdraw their investments from Russia.
The relevant legal acts will come into force after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
