The reason has been named.
The US government may face a shutdown (suspension of work) due to disagreements in Congress on December 20, The Washington Post writes.
According to the newspaper, the Republican and Democratic parties cannot reach an agreement on budgeting. If the parties fail to reach an agreement, the government will remain without funding.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican Party) told reporters that his office will unveil a temporary funding bill that would extend federal funding to March 14. If it is not passed, the government will temporarily shut down this Saturday, December 20.
Johnson is trying to allocate $10bn to help farmers, while Democrats are hoping the bill will include a provision that would have the government cover the full cost of rebuilding the collapsed bridge in Baltimore.
