Experts have reported what could have caused the fire in the Belarus shopping center in Vitebsk.

The Chairman of the State Forensic Expertise Committee Aliaksei Voukau said that the inspection of the scene has been completed. Experts have noticed “non-design changes that were made to the electrical wiring.”

Experts also reported signs of the electrical networks operating in an emergency mode, that is, a short circuit.

“The source of the fire has been identified by characteristic signs; it was 20 by 20 meters,” Aliaksei Voukau said.

The fire in the Vitebsk shopping center occurred on Friday, December 13. 20 people were treated by doctors, including employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. As of December 18, nine victims remained in hospitals, including one woman in serious condition.
