Poland imposed sanctions against a Belarusian exporter of nitrogen fertilizers. It is assumed that the intermediary company NFT LLC helped Grodno Azot bypass Western sanctions imposed three years ago for dismissing workers for “politics”. NFT LLC supplied urea from Grodno Azot to the EU. The sanctions list was supplemented at the initiative of the National Tax Administration, Euroradio reports.
Back in early 2023, an investigation was published on how Grodno Azot bypassed sanctions and sold fertilizers to Europe. There were arrests in Lithuania. But even after that, gray schemes worked.
Poland is concerned about the growth in imports of nitrogen fertilizers from Belarus and Russia (twice over the past year). In these countries, the cost of production is significantly lower due to low gas prices. That's why Polish producers, who find it difficult to compete, began to protest.
