It will power more than two million homes.

On Saturday, France made a major energy breakthrough by connecting its most powerful nuclear reactor to the national grid.

The project, known as the Flamanville 3 European Pressurized Reactor, is the result of years of effort by French energy company EDF and the French government.

The new reactor, located in northwestern France in Normandy, is expected to power more than two million homes. Its launch is part of France’s ambitious plan to expand its nuclear power industry and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

The road to this milestone has not been easy, however. Construction of the reactor began in 2007, but numerous technical problems and delays have significantly increased the cost of the project and put it 12 years behind schedule. Despite all the difficulties, French authorities and energy companies have pressed ahead with the project, seeing it as a key element of the country’s energy security.

The launch of the Flamanville 3 reactor has caused controversy. On the one hand, it is being hailed as an important step in the fight against climate change and strengthening France’s energy independence. On the other hand, critics point to the high cost of the project and the risks associated with nuclear energy.

Despite these controversies, the launch of the new reactor is a significant event for France and Europe. It demonstrates France’s commitment to nuclear energy as one of the main energy sources of the future.
