The head of Russia's General Staff made excuses for ‘Oreshnik’.
Valery Gerasimov, head of the Russian General Staff, had a telephone conversation with Charles Brown, head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. The call took place a week ago.
This is reported by The New York Times.
The rare phone call between the two sides was held last Wednesday, namely the day before Thanksgiving and at the same time six days after Russia launched a new medium-range ballistic missile at Ukraine allegedly in response to our country's use of American and British weapons to strike Russian Federation.
During the conversation, Gerasimov told Charles that the launch of the Oreshnik ballistic missile was planned long before US President Joe Biden's administration agreed to allow Ukraine to hit military targets inside Russia with ATACMS missiles.
General Brown's spokesman, Captain Jereal Dorsey, told reporters that ‘at Gerasimov's request, General Brown agreed not to announce the call in advance.’
He added that the two men ‘discussed a number of global and regional security issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.’
