The diplomat explained what his responsibilities include.
Ihor Kyzym has been appointed Ambassador-at-Large for Belarus. The diplomat reported this on his Facebook page.
“Recently, many messages have appeared in media networks regarding my new appointment related to relations with Belarusian democratic forces,” Kyzym wrote. “I want to clarify this issue. By the decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I was appointed Ambassador-at-Large for Belarus. It is obvious that at the moment any issue that concerns Belarus has a “special” character.”
As the diplomat noted, his responsibilities include the issue of relations with the democratic forces of Belarus, “as part of the Belarusian society, which opposes the policies of the current leadership of Belarus.”
“I hope that my experience as the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus will be useful in this,” the diplomat emphasized.
Kyzym was the last Ukrainian ambassador to Belarus from February 2017 to June 22, 2023. By decree of the President of Ukraine, he was relieved of his post. In April 2023, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned the meeting of Aliaksandr Lukashenka with the head of the occupation administration of the Donetsk region Denys Pushilin. The department regarded it as an attempt to legitimize him and recalled Ihor Kyzym for consultations.
