However, the prison refuses to examine and treat her.

Public activist Volha Mayorava, sentenced to 20 years in prison, is subjected to pressure and actual torture in prison. Charter97.org learned about this from a recently released prisoner of colony #24.

The colony for repeat offenders is located in the village of Zarechcha in the Rechytsa district of the Homel region, and is known for its harsh conditions for prisoners.

According to the former prisoner, Volha Mayorava has been suffering from severe sore throat for a long time, the doctors of the colony suspect cancer, but they do not provide the political prisoner with proper medical care, and the authorities refuse to send the woman for examination and treatment even to the republican prison hospital.

The political prisoner is regularly placed in a punishment cell with torture-like conditions of detention, she is not allowed correspondence, and no letters from the outside reach her either.

Public activist Volha Mayorava is 58 years old. She was arrested on January 4, 2021, and sentenced to 20 years in prison in the “Mikalai Autukhovich case”. The woman was accused of preparing “terrorist acts” without any evidence. She is recognized as a political prisoner by human rights organizations.
