Lukashenka Regime Has Come Up With New Documentation Barrier For Belarusians Abroad

What's now?
The Lukashenka regime plans to complicate marriages for Belarusian citizens who have gone abroad. From January 1, 2025, instead of a certificate of no barriers to marriage, a new document will be introduced, euroradio.fm writes.
In many countries, local registry offices require such certificates. For example, they won’t sign it in Poland without them. The only option to skip this rule is to apply to the court for permission to enter into a marriage without certificates (but the court may not allow it).
In Belarus, these certificates are now issued by the civil registration offices. You can also receive them using a general power of attorney. Officials do not say who will issue the new document form next year. This information has not yet been made publicly available.
