This provides for a new plan of the North Atlantic alliance.
The new plan of the North Atlantic Alliance stipulates that in case of an attack by Russia, Estonia has the right to strike back at the aggressor's territory.
This was stated by the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces Vahur Karus, ERR reports.
According to the major general, up to a certain point, the NATO defence plan stipulated that the Estonian army had to confront the Russians on its own for about 10 days, while the help of the Alliance allies would arrive.
However, the new NATO plan, he said, is that in the event of an attack on Estonia, the country's army has the right to defeat the Russians' forces on their own territory. This includes strikes on the locations of Russian troops that are about to attack Estonia.
‘This is a huge change. It's the change that the war in Ukraine has brought to many NATO allies. We can no longer wait to be hit over the head with a sledgehammer, but we should be the first to be able to do certain things,‘ Karus said.’
